Róisín Owens

University of Cambridge
Dr Róisín Owens is based at the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology, Cambridge University, UK.  Her group integrates biological models with electronic devices to generate systems can be used to predict the behaviour of real biological systems. The group combines expertise from a wide range of disciplines including biochemistry, microbiology, cell biology, materials science, electronics and chemistry. They develop 3D organ-on-chip models of human tissues and organs and generate native, complete membranes from human cells. These are integrated with conducting polymer devices that can read out the biological function of the tissues and membranes. Róisín received her BA in Natural Sciences (Mod. Biochemistry) at Trinity College Dublin, Republic of Ireland, and her PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Southampton University, UK.
